POLITICIAN AND WIFE CHARGED WITH CONSPIRACY TO HARVEST ORGANS: THE CASE OF THE EKWEREMADU'S

PART 1:

Nigerian politician and District Senator, Ike Ekweremadu, 60, and his wife Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 have been charged with conspiracy to arrange and/or facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation. The victim, a 15-year-old homeless boy was brought from Lagos, Nigeria to the U.K. to harvest his organs. On their way to Turkey on June 21, 2022, the couple was arrested at Heathrow Airport, London.

In a statement released by the Metropolitan police specialist crime unit, the couple was charged and appeared in court on June 23, 2022. The investigation was launched into “potential offenses” under the modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

“Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting. They have both been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later today (yesterday).”

The child has been safeguarded under the Metropolitan police care and the “criminal proceedings are now underway we will not be providing further details.” the statement read
